A question I often ask myself is: What Music Should I Download? Have you ever hit a music road block and didn't know which direction to turn? It happens to the best of us, and luckily there are a few ways to find out what music we should download.

What happens when you leave your hard drive and mp3 player behind on a trip? Well, you have to look for alternative options to get your music back. Recently I've come across SkreemR, a free mp3 music search.
A Free Mp3 Search
Skreemr.com lets you search through the mass of blogs and websites that make up the internet to find music. Once it brings back a list of artists and songs in a list format, it lets you play the songs directly on Skreemr, rather than having to click to each website to find your music.
Like What you Hear?
Use their free mp3 search to download full version of whatever the Skreemr search results have returned. It's a great way to build up your ipod collection.

A Free Mp3 Search

IODA, Free Independent Music Search

Looking for music that has been "pre-cleared" for legality? Have no fear of distributing your music online after doing a search with IODA's free independent music search.
Access for Everyone?
In order to gain access to IODA's Promonet, you'll need to be accepted. You have to sign up for an account and wait up to two days to see whether or not you have been accepted. When I signed up, I needed to provide an email address and also my website address.
Add tracks to your blog
"Promonet was designed to help you quickly find pre-cleared MP3s for use in your blog, podcast or music website. Anytime you see the orange icon next to a track you'll know that the track is a PromoTrack™. With Anywhere.fm you can upload and share your own playlist. You can also just play music from anyone else who has uploaded and publicly shared their playlist.
Who are these people?
People just share their music online and let us in someway find out a little about them. Some people say we can find out a lot about a person just by their taste in music. With Anywhere.fm we can browse anyone's playlist which is usually hand picked by each person. Is this a great way to find new music?

Discoworkout, its like a dance music revolution. Everyday the authors post new mp3 remixes. If you are a fan of the 80s as well as electronic music today, you'll find a large selection of music.

Find Free Tracks
HypeM provides a search through a large database of blogs to find the track of your "dreams". Search for an artist and Hypem will return a list of all sites that are listing that file. Most of the time, Hype will give you a direct link to the mp3 file letting you avoid visiting the blog to get the song.
Whats Hot?
Visiting Hypem is also a great way just to see whats popular. Everyday they will list the latest 25 songs that have been posted as well as the most popular search terms for the day. I've found myself build up my mp3 collection very quickly with tools such as these. Time for a new hard drive?

iRate, Download and Listen to Mp3s, Legally

Yes that word, legally, it sometimes seems hard to determine anymore if what we are doing is legal or illegal on the online world. People might tell us, yes this is legal, yet we are still doing something illegal. Strange?
iRate
With iRate, we download the open source software and are presented with a large list of songs. Naturally it is our task to rate all the music. Be patient at first. You will be presented with music you don't like. This is where iRate's rating system comes into play. After you start rating music, iRate will have a better idea what you like and don't like. After rating dozens of songs, iRate should start choosing music more to your tastes.
iRate is like going to a new restaurant. You try out the food and after trying a bit of everything out, the restaurant can give you food that fits to your preferences.

In order to use http://www.flv2mp3.com/ you first enter in the URL of the YouTube video or flv and hit upload. It will rip the file onto its server where you can than easily download your mp3 from.

The downside?
Unlike most radiobroadcasting programs, your listeners will also need to download listening software in order to hear your station. Most listeners would rather tune in to something else than have to deal with downloading extra software to listen to your station.

Rip Internet Radio with Hit Recorder 2

Early I posted about Station Ripper, a winamp plugin that rips stream from the internet. The Hit Recorder offered from concept/design a German company, lets you rip up to 20 stations at the same time. This means not having to run multiple winamps, rather let Hit Recorder record multiple stations at once.
Why would I want to Rip Internet Radio?
There are many benefits to internet radio
1. Most internet Radio stations are broadcast on the internet at cd quality. This means your ripped music will also be cd quality.
2. For those trying to build collections of the latest songs, this can be time consuming. By ripping internet radio, you can quickly build a collection of the latest tracks. You may end up with repeats and undesirable tracks, but deleting those tracks is just as easy as it was to download them.
3. Legality. Though the legality can be questioned, there is no way to detect that you have been downloading internet radio. Listening to internet radio is legal and therefore, you won't run into any legal problems. Sharing these downloaded files is a different story...

Pandora, Find Your Favorite Artists

Pandora, does it unlock the secrets of Pandora's box? Not exactly, but it will help you discover your favorite artists through its ability to stream arists who are similar to the artists you like.
How does Pandora work?
Simply type in an artists you like. Pandora will then play songs from its database that are similar to the arist you selected. They have researched thousands of artists and determined certain characterstics that each artists possesses. With this in mind, say you choose Moby. It will look look for all artists that have a similar style to Moby and play those tracks for you. If you don't like the artists are track its playing, simply hit fast forward and listen to yet another song.

Though I like to download Mp3s that I listen to, Mp3.com turns out to be a great place to preview music before we buy. Mp3.com streams fulls albums at 64kbp which is more like listening to music from a radio, but if your computer are like mine, you won't notice a huge difference in quality. Most of the music Albums on Mp3 music are just free plays.
Free Downloads?
Mp3.com keeps a list of the top 10 free mp3 songs for download. Unlike their free play albums, the free mp3s are all artists that few have heard of. What can we expect for free? The music industry has suffered enough, it seems to get something free, they are either going to downgrade the quality, to get us to buy the album in full cd quality or give us a few sample tracks to keep us interested. However, instead of "stealing" music, shouldn't we be supporting the artists?

Beemp3 is a simple mp3 aggregator for finding free mp3s online. This means that it looks through all the services offering free mp3s online and delivers a result. Though anyone can question the legality of such a service, this method is a lot faster and simplier than using google or yahoo as search tool to find mp3s.
The Returned Search Results?
After doing a quick search for the album "Master of Puppets" by Metallica, I recieved a link to almost track on the album, yet I was dissapointed by the fact that all tracks are different bit rates (the quality of the track). However, what can you expect when all the files are comming from different sources?

Using Mp3spy to listen to free music online

Mp3Spy is a russian mp3 site which sells online mp3 songs considerably cheaper than most sites on the internet. There has been many questions into he legallity of an mp3 such such as this as usually no royalities are paid to the respective artists. This is in a way, stealing from the music industry, but with a site such as Mp3spy based in a country that is hard to enforce copyright rules, there is little that can be done.
How can we use Mp3spy to listen to free music?
If you sign up for an Mp3spy account, you are entitled to download music, but you are also permitted to preview entire songs. They don't just offer 30 second clips like most site, but full songs, letting you listen to a large amount of albums online for free.
The quality?
If you are picky about the quality of the sound, then this method is not for you. Most of the sounds have been highly down sampled. In many cases the songs are 1/3rd the quality. But this doesn't stop you from listening to free music online with Mp3spy.

Free Break Beat Music on d1rt

France, they are giving when it comes to free electronic music on the net. Not all do they give us Deezer, the music sharing site, now they giving us d1rt, a compilation of break beat dance albums on the net.
Is it good or just d1rt?
One thing you should know is, when it comes to electronic music, France knows it's stuff. It seems like d1rt could of come up with a better website design. Currently the site is just a list of free break beat albums. Just pictures of the albums and links. Thats it. No information or news. Maybe this is a good thing? Rather than reading through pages of information you just get direct links to Free Break Beat Music.

Get 2 Free British Invasion Cds

Bass Beer from the UK wants us to hear a little more of British Rock while drinking their beer so they are giving 2 cds with each signup, one for you, and one for your friend.
When signing up for the cds, I noticed that Bass seems to be affliated with Becks beer. When you go to sign up, leave your mouse pointer over the tab that says "Get Your Free CD". A small text message will appear that says "Enter Becks Beer" though this website clearly is for Bass. Strange, but interesting. Anyway, the CDs are supposed to be the best of Rock from UK, does that mean the Iggy Pop generation or the Kaiser Chiefs? I guess we won't find out until we get the samples.Ok,

Spinner, a sort of Indie music site brought to use by our "friends" at Aol, concludes its posting each day with a free mp3 of the day. Not only is this a great way to catch up on some artists that might less known to most of us.

So you bought music and noticed that their is DRM (digital rights management) on your files. Your file is either limited for a certain amount of time or only works on your computer. What do do? How can you crack the DRM and unprotect your music?

If you are a subscriber of napster, you know that you can't move your music around, its stuck on your pc. By using Tunebite you can rip the DRM.
