I couldn't help but post this article I found on Iownmymusic.org:

"Remember Jammie Thomas? Yeah, you know, the woman taken to court by six large record label for making music available for people to share on the Internet. Well, get this: she’s not only been found guilty, but she’s been ordered to pay $220,000 in compensation. $220,000!

Thomas was fined $9,250 for every song she illegally made available on her Kazzaa account, which she said she didn’t own in her defense. She was found guilty of sharing 24 songs, although what these songs are was undisclosed. Apparently she shared some 1,702 songs in all.

The lowest she could have been made to pay was $750 per song, so you can be sure that they are trying to make an example out this poor woman with the massive amount of money they’ve called her out for.

This is a landmark ruling, and it’s one that’s sure to send ripples through the music industry. Are we to all live in fear now that the record labels are starting to bite back? This is just the beginning, and you can be sure that more cases will follow.

What’s big news here is the excessive amount of money Jammie Thomas has to pay. The 24 songs are worth, what, $24? Thomas did the same as millions of people around the world do every day.

Another music sharing site? Yes it's soundclick a site where hopeful artists post their homemade music looking for a little attention.

Homegrown music?
You know how people go on American Idol looking to be "big stars"? Well I suppose that a service like Soundclick is a place to turn for those who didn't make it. They might have sounded bad on American Idol, but actually I was amazed by some of the unknown artists placing their music on Soundclick. Take this artist, auditory, rap isn't exactly my favorite music, but they do a pretty good job creating their own beats.

QTrax: Free Legal Mp3 Downloads

qTrax just released with it's first beta version allowing you to download mp3 tracks both legally and free. They've decided to launch with PC support first, opting for a Mac release date on March 18th.

What does qTrax offer?
Free Legal Mp3 Downloads of course. But seriously, qTrax tells use ,"Qtrax is NOT just another P2P network, yet everything is legal. My question is of course is, if this is another p2p service, how will users be able to share files, yet keep everything legal? They are claiming that the advertising used in this service helps pay for the cost of each one of the downloads we make on the site. That and perhaps the lack of newly released music makes qTrax a very viable option for downloading music.

What to use this for?
Though the sound quality of YouTube mp3s are usually not that great, it is a great option to save sound from a music video that you just couldn't find anywhere else. Though I don't prefer this method, it is a great solution for unknown music on YouTube (when you can't figure out the artist)

Lately, I've been using full-albums.net when I really need an album. I can't promise this site is in anyway legit, only that I have gotten an album or two off this site with very little effort. Take Marsmobil - Minx, an album I recently downloaded off the site. I had been unable to locate it anywhere else, so I took the chance and got my "Free Full Mp3 Album Download" from full-albums.net.

Imeem, its a great little service that lets us share whatever music we want. It's a lot like Deezer, yet more in the direction of myspace. You create your own music playlists and share them on your own personal profile on Imeem. Where was I when Imeem launched?

So you found a couple albums you like, why not rip them from Imeem? Just head over to Orbit downloader , link here.

1.Start Grab++ from the Tools menu.
2. Grab++ should recognize the song that is playing and started immediately after being located.
3. You'll find that your songs are flv, and very large sizes.
4. You'll need to convert this to mp3 from flv with software such as Freez Flv to Mp3 Converter.

Download.com gave clickster 3 and a half stars out of 5. I'd rank it the same. Clickster won't find everything you are looking for, but a majority of it us, yes.

So you paid $25 for an mp3 program that claims that its services are 100% legal and with it you can download all the mp3s you want. What is the catch?

Don't pay for illegal file downloaders
You might have seen services out there claiming 100% legal service. Just a $25 sign up fee and you are ready to go. Don't pay it! All these 100% "legal" mp3 services is do is take money out of your bank account and give you programs that otherwise would have been free. What they aren't telling you is, these programs are illegal. Record companies do not get any money from your subscription, probably just some guy in Romania who is making a living off your mistake.

Get File Sharing Free
You can download Kazaa Lite 2.0 and WinMX 3.31 for free without penalty. The only penalty is the risk of getting caught by the RIAA, who have not been very nice. (They never make Santa's Christmas list.)

SomeSongs.com offers just that, some songs. It updates a new listing of free music tracks everyday with no songs hosted directly on SomeSongs, rather everything is linked to that respected artist's music site. Considering everything on this site is considered legal, you won't find the latest Madonna or Radiohead album, rather a mix of interesting tracks by artists like the Von Bots or Eftos.

Is interesting better?
Some would say that the interesting range of free music out there is better than the music being promoted by rich record labels. Aren't artists just a little more creative when they have to fend for their own with no one supporting them? Most of the artists on SomeSongs will probably be your first and maybe last listen but, consider that the artists here are just trying to make good beats. Some of the free legal mp3s will even be infinately better than anything you'll here on a Record Label supported album.

Listen to the top signed and unsigned artists online. Purevolume brings the best of artists lucky enough get signed and also the best of the unsigned world of music.
You can also view by category, genre, whatever you like. Find what you want to listen to and PureVolume lets you listen to the track fully, though at low quality. I would recommend PureVolume as a way to find out about new artists, but its low quality streams, make we wonder if anyone really enjoys listening to telephone quality sounding music. Doesn't that just heart your ears more than give you great music?

A Free Mp3 Search
Skreemr.com lets you search through the mass of blogs and websites that make up the internet to find music. Once it brings back a list of artists and songs in a list format, it lets you play the songs directly on Skreemr, rather than having to click to each website to find your music.

Like What you Hear?
Use their free mp3 search to download full version of whatever the Skreemr search results have returned. It's a great way to build up your ipod collection.

People just share their music online and let us in someway find out a little about them. Some people say we can find out a lot about a person just by their taste in music. With Anywhere.fm we can browse anyone's playlist which is usually hand picked by each person. Is this a great way to find new music?

Look at their song meter, it almost could tell time. Are there really that many songs uploaded, almost one per second?
