The newer R5 release format allows movie studios to release films more quickly with the film however not having the same post processing and no additional features that a dvd would have.

According to Wiki, “In an effort to compete with movie piracy in Russia, the movie industry chose to create a new format for DVD releases that could be produced more quickly and less expensively than traditional DVD releases. R5 releases differ from normal releases in that they lack both the image post-processing and special features that are common on DVD releases. This allows the film to be released for sale at the same time that DVD Screeners are released.”

Keeping note of the release dates is a good indicator of when you can see a good copy of the film being released online as a good copy and not simply a theater cam rip.

10 horror movies are playing for free on fear net.  Most of the free net films you must be at least 18 to watch since they are all rated R.  Some free horror movies include:

Fright Night “When a teenager learns that his next door neighbour is a vampire, no one will believe him. A horror classic from director Tom Holland.”

The Roost “Four friends on their way to a wedding find themselves marooned on a mysterious farm that is infested with vampires. Now Playing.”

I think we see a trend… vampire horror movies!  Many of the films never made it to theaters, but some are still highly respected.

Fear dot Net brings you many different horror series, and new is 30 days of night which you can watch online.  You might have scene the commercials online for this new series (it’s how I heard about it).

According to Wikipedia: 30 Days of Night: Blood Trails is a 7-part miniseries that was released on FEARnet.com and FEARnet On Demand that act as a prequel to the movie 30 Days of Night. Set two days before the events in the movie, series focuses on George (Andrew Laurich), a young addict who makes a living seeking covert information for Judith, the weary but wise New Orleans vampire hunter. [1] It is based on a subplot of the original comic that was left out of the movie.

Keep in 30 Days of Night Blood Trails is intended to cover that part of the original comic book which was not used in the movie. The whole 30 Days of Night Blood Trails 7 part series was already played in full back on October 7, 2007.

We will once again be able to watch the Gossip Girl online when it the new season airs in September.  Earlier the CW took Gossip Girl took full online episodes offline when it thought that it would increase tv viewership.  With that not being the case, the CW is once again going to let use watch the Gossip Girl online this fall.

The CW felt that it was unable to really call Gossip Girl a hit, though there is plenty of widespread buzz about the Gossip Girl going around.  One factor might be the difference between two rating systems, Nielsons and Optimedia. Optimedia’s survey ranked Gossip Girl as the 15th most popular show on television, which is contrary to the below-100th place it took in Nielsen’s ratings.

Plenty of people went to see the Dark Knight in theater, setting new records, even though the Dark Knight was available early online.  Movie theaters have believed that movie piracy such as the Dark Knight film would affect box office numbers.

But imagine watching the Dark Knight on a camera rip, doesn’t have the same effect does it?  Not at all.  Usually these pirated copies are grainy and often hard to see what is going on.  The theater offers an experience that few home entertainment systems.  Even I have a projector at home, but blowing up that terrible Cam copy I downloaded on Graboid doesn’t do the film justice.  Sure sometimes I will run across a decent copy, but movie goes know, if it’s a good film, it’s worth the $5 to see it in the cinema.

Still the MPAA will go on believing that piracy is a threat to the movie business, maybe in the dvd after market, but there is no way to match the cinema experience, especially in the case with the Dark Knight, that even though can watch the Dark Knight Online now, theater goes still flock to the cinema.
